It has been only six years since a group of third year students dreamed
about a “Home” that would foster unity towards the fulfillment of their field.
With barely a plan with all the pressures of college life, but plenty of
dreams, the so-called home is now a reality – INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING SOCIETY
(IES).

It all started in 2001,
when Industrial Engineering students from De La Salle University – Dasmariñas
(DLSU-D) together with concerned faculty members from the College of Technology
(COT) spearheaded the first ever Recognized Student Organization of their
college. Guided by Engr. Roberto Liwanag together with Dr. Marluna Urubio (Dean
of COT)
, and Engr. Marissa Botacion (IEE Coordinator), IES was born. Accredited
by the Council of Student Organizations (CSO) in DLSU-D, IES is also recognized
by the Philippine Institute of Industrial Engineering (PIIE).

     The founding officers
of IES headed by Ms. Mary Joy del Monte had vigorously started IES which had
caused an immediate sensation. Through dynamic activities such as “General
Assembly” and “Getting to Know”, the group had been able to establish a unified
Industrial Engineering community. Fund raising activities such as “Hiraman at
Bilihan sa Tech” (HIBIT) had supported the organization’s outreach programs and
spiritual wellness. Different seminars also highlighted the year, which had
helped students widen their mental ability.

    Before the
organization’s impact had even cooled, IES animatedly followed-up the next
school year with activities as COT advance towards the name - College of
Engineering and Technology (CET) . Under the leadership of Ms. Sunshine Romero,
the organization had been able to held activities from the previous year of the
society. Further activities such as “Tindahan”, and “One Night In Love” had
sustained the financial needs for community-based programs like “Outreach for
Grandparents at the Tahanan ni Maria”. Educational discussions were also conducted
during the year such as “Thermodynamics Seminar”. Putting a great deal of
competitiveness, IES had joined for the first time, the 15th
National Industrial Engineering Inter-University Quiz Bowl with the champions
of the “IES Quiz Show”.

        As the flame for
service passionately burn, the third year and the fourth year of IES had
dreamed and achieved. Headed by Ms. Jeddah Abing and Mr. Siegrid Nash Marasigan
at the organization’s third and fourth year respectively, IES had relived the
traditional activities. Moreover, the organization also had “Company Visit”
that had exposed IEE students in manufacturing environments. Further to promote
unity, IES T-shirts was made possible. And to make the living of an IES member
more enjoyable, each member had an Identification Card wherein they had been
able to avail certain perks and privileges from respected and well-known
establishments.

  Innovation, Explore,
Succeed – IES, this was the stand of the organization at its fifth year. Mr.
Emmanuel Gelle
together with his constituents, had held long-established
activities mainly for the benefit of IEE students. Working hand-in-hand with
the Student Council of CET, IES had been able to conduct “Freshmen Orientation”
and “CET Quiz-Bee – Mentis Bellum”. Further, the society goes online thru its
“Yahoo Group” which interactively unites the organization with the means of
technology.

    IES had ambitiously
dreamed and achieved as it puts itself beyond the limits. Spearheaded by Mr.
Gerald Barrion
at the sixth year of the organization, IES had materialized projects
and activities that had defined a new standard in organizational activities. In
fact, the organization had been recognized as one of the “Most Outstanding
Student Organization” during the CSO-RSO Awards 2006. That is just only one of
the six awards that the organization had won during the said event. Pushing a
little bit more, the organization was nominated as “Best Co-Curricular Student
Organization of the Year” during the Student Awards 2007. Bringing home the
bacon, Mr. Barrion had won as the “Best Co-Curricular Student Organization of
the Year “ during the said awards night.

        It is hard to imagine
the landscape for the field of IEE without the society that had affectionately
cultivated it. No one has the faintest idea where IES is going to be for the
following years. But as it continues to flex its muscles and show how
unstoppable it is, it will be and it will always be a Home.
